These are the five tallest, and all five buildings are well over 1,000 feet in height. Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, so real estate in Hong Kong is worth a fortune. So building owners try to build the tallest buildings possible to make the maximum use of their valuable real estate.

The city of Hong Kong contains more skyscrapers than any other city in the world with 281 buildings topping out over 492 feet in height. Hong Kong also also contains the most tallest buildings in the world, with 2,345 buildings that top out over 328 feet in height. Real estate is at a premium in Hong Kong.

1. International Commerce Centre- 1,588 feet

At 1,588 feet in height, the International Commerce Centre is the tallest building in the city of Hong Kong. The International Commerce Centre is also the second tallest building in China, trailing only the 1,614 foot high World Financial Center, and the fifth tallest building in the world. 

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Hong Kong occupies most of the upper floors in the International Commerce Centre, which was completed in 2010. There is also an observation deck open to the public on the 100th floor that offers fantastic views of Hong Kong. The International Commerce Centre contains 118 floors.

2. Two International Finance Centre- 1,364 feet

The second tallest building in Hong Kong at 1,364 feet is Two International Finance Centre. Two International Finance Centre was the tallest building in Hong Kong from the time it was completed in 2003 until 2010, when the International Commerce Centre surpassed it.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority occupies space in Two International Finance Centre. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority maintains an exhibition area and a library on the 55th floor at Two International Finance Centre that is open to the public. The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is located right down the street.

3. Central Plaza- 1,227 feet

At 1,227 feet in height, Central Plaza is the third tallest building in Hong Kong. Central Plaza was the tallest building in Hong Kong from the time it was completed in 1992 until 2003 when Two International Finance Centre was finished.

Interestingly, it cost three times more to buy the land for Central Plaza than it actually cost to build the building. Real estate costs a fortune in Hong Kong. Located at the top of the building is the Sky City Church, which is the highest church in the world in a building, though not considered the tallest church in the world because only the very top of the building is a church.

4. Bank of China Tower- 1,205 feet

The Bank of China Tower is the fourth tallest building in Hong Kong at 1,205 feet in height. When it was completed in 1990, the Bank of China Tower became the first building in the world outside of the United States to surpass 1,000 feet.

Though it is no longer the tallest building in Hong Kong, the Bank of China Tower is still the most unique looking of the tallest buildings in Hong Kong. There is a skydeck on the 42nd floor in the Bank of China Tower that is open to the public.

5. The Center- 1,135 feet

The fifth tallest building in Hong Kong is the 1,135 foot high The Center. The Center is unique among the tallest buildings in Hong Kong for the almost 9,000 blue, green and red neon lights on the top floors that slowly change colors at night creating a nice show.
